The CASIMAR project is an initiative of the Bundesverband studentischer Raumfahrt e.V. (BVSR) with the aim of giving student clubs from all over Germany the opportunity to carry out lunar analog experiments together with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the European Space Agency (ESA).
As part of the project, tools for extravehicular activities on the lunar surface and a rover to support astronauts on these missions are being developed and tested. The tests and studies are carried out in the LUNA lunar analog hall at the European Astronaut Center (EAC) in Cologne, a specially created infrastructure for the simulation of lunar missions. CASIMAR serves as an interface between student associations and research institutions in order to facilitate practical space experiments.
The project not only promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between space enthusiasts in Germany, but also supports the training of future space engineers. By developing new technologies for exploring the lunar surface, CASIMAR contributes to the scientific and technological advancement of exploration missions. In the long term, cooperation between students and space organizations is to be intensified and research into extra-vehicular activities at the lunar South Pole is to be promoted.
